Mash Café Philosophy - Organic Fair Trade Tea & Coffee

MASH PHILOSOPHY

Mash operates as a values led café and restaurant that is ethical. We believe that businesses have responsibilities to society and the environment.

An interesting web site that explores business ethics www.ethics.org.au

Fair Trade Products
MASH FAIR TRADE COFFEE TEA AND CHOCOLATEAt Mash all of our coffee tea and chocolate is fair trade. This means a better deal for third world farmers and ensures more of the selling price goes to producers and less to traders and big corporations. A premium is paid directly into the community for development of public facilities including schools and hospitals. For more information on fair trade visit www.maketradefair.com

Recycling
We recycle and re use materials where ever possible including building materials, paper, PET, cardboard & glass. All of our packaging is sorted on site and recycled as part of our waste reduction policy. We are designing & building an onsite commercial worm farm so we can compost food scraps.

Eco Packaging
All our takeaway containers are bio degradable and made from 100% recycled materials. Our straws & disposable cutlery are made from biodegradable cornstarch.

Organic Ingredients
Organic produce is grown without the use of harmful pesticides, artificial fertilizers or medicines. Organic farmers are able to manage their resources in an environmentally sustainable manner while maximising the health & well being of their farm animals and soil. Organic is a term defined by law and production is governed by a strict set of standards and guidelines.

Organic produce tends to be of better quality with a better taste. Mash cafe offer a wide range of organic soft drinks, bottled water, coffee, tea, sugar, chocolate, butter, bread and savoury pies.

Energy & Emissions
Each year Mash calculates the emissions and total energy used in our operations and plants the equivalent number of trees in state run forests. The same applies for our car which has already led to 34 trees being planted. See www.greenfleet.com for information on how you can do the same for your business, household or car.

Suppliers
Transportation causes environmental damage so Mash aim to source locally and use seasonal fruit and vegetables. We use small independent companies and do not source from multi nationals where alternatives are available.
